Google Gemini 2.0: A First Look at the New Models

Sources: Google
Google has released Google Gemini 2.0, which comes in several models.
I have four new Gemini 2.0 models in my account, and I want to briefly walk you through each one, explaining what it does, what it’s good for, and then comparing the free and paid Gemini 2.0 plans so you’ll understand why you might use Gemini 2.0 and which Gemini 2.0 model to choose for different tasks.

You can access Google Gemini 2.0 at gemini.com.
It’s free to use, with a paid upgrade called Gemini 2.0 Advanced for Rs:- 1950/- a month.
Some Google Gemini 2.0 features are only available with the paid account.
Gemini 2.0 Flash: Speed and Efficiency

The first Google Gemini 2.0 model everyone got access to, the new Gemini 2.0, is called Gemini 2.0 Flash.
This is your general-use large language model and chatbot for Gemini 2.0. For example, I’ll ask Gemini 2.0 to summarize a news article in 100 to 150 words.
I’ll take this release, ” Gemini 2.0 is now available to everyone,” and I can either copy and paste the entire page or add a link, as this version of Gemini 2.0 also has web browsing access.
Google states that Gemini 2.0 Flash is a Gemini 2.0 model optimized for speed and efficiency, generally available across Google’s AI products, including the Gemini 2.0 app and within the API for developers.
Now, I’ll do the same thing with Google Gemini 2.0, but this time, I’ll copy and paste the link just to show you it does the same thing. I won’t edit this part so you can see the speed; it’s extremely fast.
Of all the AIs I’ve tested, this Gemini 2.0 Flash is the fastest. The previous Gemini 2.0 model, 1.5 Flash, still available in the dropdown, was also extremely fast.
So, if speed is your primary concern with Gemini 2.0, this might be the chatbot for you.
Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental: Reasoning Power

The next Google Gemini 2.0 model is called Google Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental.
This is a Google Gemini 2.0 reasoning model, a bit different from a general-use Google Gemini 2.0 model. If you’re familiar with ChatGPT, you’ve probably used their reasoning model, currently called o03 mini.
DeepSeek R1 is also a Google Gemini 2.0 reasoning model.
You wouldn’t use these Google Gemini 2.0 models for everyday tasks. As you can see, it says “lacks real-time info,” so this version of Google Gemini 2.0 doesn’t have web access.
The one right below it does, which I’ll show you in a second. You might use this Gemini 2.0 model if you don’t need information from the web and just need the Gemini 2.0 reasoning engine.
I’ll show you some standard tests I run with Gemini 2.0 reasoning models, which large language models often struggle with. Here’s one: “Which is bigger, 9.11 or 9.9?” The way Google Gemini 2.0 reasons is quite good.
Look at this step-by-step approach. As long as it has this line, this isn’t technically the answer, but you can see its thinking process: understand the question, analyze the numbers, compare the first decimal places, and compare the decimal parts systematically.
It goes through this reasoning to give you an answer. The final answer is 9.9; 9.9 is bigger than 9.1, so it got that one right. This Google Gemini 2.0 model doesn’t seem to tell you how long it’s thinking. o03 mini and DeepSeek R1 do provide that information.
